Subject: Skyscrapers on the left?
Hi,

After some prodding by one of my ad networks who noticed that I was asleep at the wheel I've probably more than doubled revenue from my existing traffic stream; all good.

One remaining item of indecision I have: does the panel think that should I move skyscraper ads (mainly/always) to the left as Google's heatmap suggests, or rotate them between right and left (slowly!) to help reduce ad blindness?

I'd say the left. I've tried both, and the left works best for me.

Thanks: do you have any idea how much better for you, eg in eCPM/RPM?

TBH, I haven't experimented for a while. But when I did, bottom line income was at least double with the left ad block. Currently I'm using a large rectangle on the left of my main index and that is a good earner.

However, Madsense changes very quickly and if I were to experiment again the results may be different now. As we know, what works for one site doesn't necessarily work for another. Only way is to have a play. But I do think the heatmap is a good guide.

Thanks again, I will try a lurch to the left and see what, if anything, happens to revenue!

Where would the ads need to be placed on a page to make you more likely to notice them?

(question for our readers - answers may give us some clues.)

P: users are not necessarily aware of where their attention is drawn since a lot of that is subconscious I think.

Anyhow, about 10 minutes of switching to the left layout I earned about 20% of my normal daily revenue in one click (though not from a skyscraper)! Have to see how the rest of the day pans out.

Sounds good, but a longer test might be needed to see smiling smiley

I always had one skyskraper on the right and menu on the left. So, please keep us updated about results. I might consider swapping, but it's not easy to do for my site.

The day is doing well (already earned comfortably more than the whole of yesterday), but possibly complicated by the fact that I'm doing some heavy advertising to try to widen my user base.

Anyway, I'll give an update if I come to a form conclusion after (say) a week.

I've been trying horizontal ads below the title and above the content on a few pages. Can't do it everywhere and don't want to, but seems to go well.

Yes, some of my best-performing stuff is exactly there.

Done that since day one for every page. Simply replaced my old Amazon banners in SSI.
