Subject: translate.googleusercontent.com: thumbs up or down?
As mentioned in another thread, I'm getting an increasing humber of hits from this translate.googleusercontent.com place.

Good or bad?

Anyone else notice this in their referrals? Should I welcome this traffic with open arms, pay no attention, seek to block it?

Opinions and prescriptions welcome...

Here's a sample anonymized line from my log:

Gee, I've had millions [literally] since whenever.

Harold, you need to kick the "log" habit and get a life <g>

Don't worry, Ian, it's not a habit! I was looking in my log at someone's suggestion to find something else--as noted elsewhere.

Maybe because I DON'T make a habit of it, I didn't recognize this as normal....

So it's good to hear that you've seen so many millions. See, your log-browsing habit came in useful!

So I should just ignore that, you think?

"Good or bad?"

Well, maybe that's too binary. Are people coming from that site actually reading my content, in translation? Or are they scraping it and reusing it? Or both?

That's what I'm wondering about.

good question, still there's no answer as intent can only be guessed from behavior.

OK, thanks. You've actually answered my question--that referral doesn't raise an immediate red flag for you, so I see no reason to worry.

I certainly have no view on this.

I think there has been talk of covert scraping, as via proxies, and some other naughtiness using these services, but I don't think that they are a problem.

Well - the big woosh of air is continuing to woosh.... I'm either not worring over something I should be, or you are over-worrying about it.
