Subject: Stop a spammer?
I've mentioned before the idiot whom from time time spams my "rate a page" script with nonsense.

Sometimes nothing for weeks then twice a day. Latest example:

Any ideas?

Similar IP address each time?

Same ISP each time?

Same User-Agent each time?

Always obvious gibberish such as *no* correct English words and/or always invalid URLs?

Use any of those to require manual (re)submission or a harder screening test or generate an apologetic 503 after the first one each day/week/whatever, ie rate-limit?

Rgds

I must confess, going over to Win XP pro, I lost a lot of info, then again maybe not.

I'll monitor it. This has been going on for years. Since 2006, from memory off the top of my head.

I've always put it down to a mutual friend Harold and I have, the only "internet enemy" I believe I know.

Really, you have to be "deranged" mentally to do this junk.

Damon, mate, you put the brain in gear.

I'll report back.

Ian, I wouldn't attribute it to our old friend, only because of the frequency. When he gets going with something like that, he really gets going--like the times he has posted in dozens and dozens of long-dead threads to bury all of the active ones in every section of a discussion board.

Doesn't seem like him, but who knows?

Any luck tracing back those IP addresses?

When my site was hacked last year, I learned the perps were in the Ukraine.

189.19.88.153 is from Brazil
82.114.160.35 is from Yemen
[lacnic.net]

if the same IP ranges show up again you can block the whole ranges
82.114.160.0/24 and 189.18.0.0/15

Also look into using captcha

Already use Captcha. That's already been circumvented.

Your checking of IP's means blocking is totally pointless. I'd have a list, ongoing, kilometres long.

We're dealing with the "smarter than average bear".

While say, five years ago he was a regular daily annoyance, now he's degenerated into a once or so a month nuisance.

Just a technical problem of someone deranged and I only know one person with that capability, no matter what Harold says.

I have no other known enemies.

Excepting MI5, MI6, Mossad, FBI, CIA, ASIO

You do know you all have files on your respective secret service organisations for associating with a bolshie/social justice advocate.

He writes to the newspapers and gets published.

He writes in all the international online media forums.

He writes anywhere in the world.

People listen to him.

Sometimes when not drunk, he be very rational and makes a lot of sense.

He has an idea.

He be a very dangerous man.

Speaking of FWIW.

Did you know we have such Draconian "terrurism" laws that those who SBO can take you off the street?

Keep you in custody for 28 days [I think] release you, re-arrest you outside and the clock starts again.

You have no right to legal representation.

If perchance you speak to a lawyer he/she is subject to 20+ years in jail through a secret commission?

Tell the wife, family or friends where you've been?

Ditto penalties for them.

Yet to be challenged in the High Court where it is certain to be struck down.

But how do you get there?

Certainly could be our friend, Ian! Spoofing different locations sounds like him. I thought the frequency wasn't--but maybe he's just reminding you he's still around. Who knows, with him!
