Subject: American salesdroids and courtesy!
Twice in two days now I've been approached in over-familiar terms by (US sales) people who seem to think that my time and/or skills are valuable, but not so valuable as to to actually do me the courtesy of actually reading what they have in front of them before wasting my time.

For goodness sake, *especially* if you actually believe your own sales patter, don't insult your target.

And just maybe my time is more valuable to me than to just do the droids' bidding to turn them a quick buck.

Did they phone you, or send you an email? I haven't experienced such bots, I have to say.

Email.

And in both cases they passed my Turing tests of having real humans behind them, though almost certainly a template email you're probably right...

PS. Yesterday's one annoyed me so much I sent a letter to his CEO asking them never to contact me again...

Trouble is, you don't want to block all such messages - just in case one of that actually has a really good prospect to offer.

Yes, true, and the second one was a reputable company of decent size, so it's doubly irritating that their droid was so annoying that I'd rather not have anything more to do with them.

I was particularly annoyed by his comment "it'll only take 5 minutes of your time to put in the code on your Web page"... Yes, if I don't read the contract, analyse the effect on the site not least from displacing existing successful advertising, etc, etc.

Ah, my faith in human nature creeps up again. I received a fairly gracious apology from the second salesman today. Whether my complaint to 'support' and the CEO made any difference I don't know, but the apology seemed to arrive soon after the CEO read one of my missives! %-P

What's 2012 got to do with the price of cheese? (Other than a truncated futures market?) B^>

Gee and all these years I've been trashing these opportunities into the rubbish bin with MailWasher.

What a fool?

Oh dear, a few less beers with my departing boss and I might have had a clue what you meant. But in any case, I see no separation between myself and the rest of the Universe. Only wish other management types could manage that small insight too! B^>
