Subject: Billing Contact Change
Has anyone else who uses AdWords received an e-mail about an imminent Billing Contact Change (or check)?

If not, what I've received could be the beginning of a scam of some sort.

What do you see when you log in to your AdWords account?

No, I've seen no such notice.

I've seen no such email, but them my SPAM filters might have killed such a mail, real or fake.

PS. And nothing visible in my a/c to suggest such a change.

It's so long since I logged in, I might have forgotten how!

Currently I just have an e-mail telling me to expect an e-mail asking me to confirm the e-mail address of whoever should review invoices.

Ah! Were you armed with "Mailwasher", as I believe everyone should, then the expected email in the view pane might look something like this [in part]:

Login to your Google AdWords account [links to: xyz-spammers.com]

I see it every second day. Of course if it's kosher you get the right link address.

Google recently notified invoicing customers about an upcoming change in our system. In this email, customers were informed that Google is currently verifying email addresses listed as billing contacts. If you received this email and you are not the correct contact person, you should reply to this email with the correct email address. We can assure you that this email was sent by Google and is not a phishing or spam email.

Well, a phisher would say that wouldn't they!

A sensible version would say "Log in directly to your account from your browser and update the email address there as soon as possible please."

Do I hear you say that you don't think that an ordinary e-mail (I mean the ones without encryption and digital signature) is the best way to change account settings for billing purposes winking smiley.

As there is the message on the AdWords site, I'm happy to respond if/when I get the e-mail concerned.

Provided they only want to confirm they have the correct address to e-mail invoices to then I don't believe there is a risk (I guess someone else could receive my invoices if they wanted :-) )

If it is a phisher's work and anyone answers then said phisher knows that there is a live person with a live Google account and that they are susceptible to social engineering!

But how would the phisher get the message placed on the Google AdWords page!

They wouldn't. But sending it in a mail to you is (relatively) easy, with forged headers and so on.

So my point is to NOT respond directly to any email that wants confirmation or credentials, nor click or otherwise use any link in it, but separately and manually log into the Web site that you already know about to confirm.

MY point is and, I've been screaming it for years

USE Mailwasher. Never download mail from your server.

I can give you the affiliate link <grin>

I think after all these years there might be a link to the free version. Maybe not.

DON't GIVE UP

I've got copies of all the olden day free versions.

Aren't I smart "little cat"?

All nod heads and say YES.

Free for all if you have half a brain.

Well I received the promised follow up e-mail. It contained a link to a https Google adwords address (as well as my Adwords account number) so it appeared to be kosher.

Shame I received it on April the First though!
